I used to think birthdays were all about big parties and loud music. But last year, I decided to do something a little different. Instead of a one-night event, I packed my bags and flew my family out to Puerto Princesa, Palawan with me.

Usually, I’m all about solo travel. I love the freedom of going wherever I want. But this time, it wasn’t about me, it was about us.

I’ve realized that I appreciate birthday trips way more than parties now. Parties are over in a few hours but the feeling of exploring a new city with the people who raised you? That stays with you forever.

It wasn’t my first time traveling with them but it was my first time actually celebrating my birthday with them in a beautiful place like Palawan. Seeing their faces light up at the airport was already worth it.

We stayed at the Aziza Paradise Hotel, and it lived up to its name. The hotel was awesome! Before the trip, I spent so much time researching the best restaurants in Puerto Princesa and making a list of where to eat.

But guess what? We didn't even go out to eat!

The food at Aziza was so superb that we ended up just staying in and enjoying the hotel meals. It was convenient, delicious and made the whole experience feel so much more relaxing. Sometimes, the best "itinerary" is just good food and good company by the pool.

Was It Expensive? Yes. Was It Worth It? Absolutely.

I’ll be honest... flying the whole family and staying at a nice resort isn't cheap. It was definitely a splurge. But seeing my parents enjoy the room, the food, and the vibes made every cent worth it.

We often think we have all the time in the world but the truth is, our parents are getting older. I’ve realized how important it is to cherish every moment with them while they are still strong enough to travel and explore.

If you’re thinking about your next birthday, maybe skip the party and book the flight instead. Bring your parents. Spend the money. Take the photos. These are the moments you’ll look back on years from now.

Puerto Princesa was beautiful but the memories we made together were the real highlight.
